Global Players
GLOBAL PLAYERS
The work was first conceived in 2007 as a large-scale intervention for the former Vienna Stock Exchange and installed in the form of an oversized information display. In his drawing (originally 37 x 2.5 metres), Nikolaus Gansterer critically examines common forms of representation of global connections and interdependencies. Gansterer uses graphic means to reflect on the fact that every form of mapping is always an instrument of power to measure the world and make it controllable. Consequently, the artist playfully deconstructs the "panopticon" and other current models for explaining globalization. Rather than striving to simplify the world order by reducing complexities, Gansterer creates a parallel multi-layered system of references that interconnects micro and macro levels.
